MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The St. Paul therapist accused of helping two teens escape a juvenile corrections facility now faces three counts of criminal sexual conduct.
Karen Anne Meyer, 30, is charged with having sex with a 17-year-old boy who was one of her patients at Boys Totem Town, according to the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office.
The criminal complaint states that Meyer helped that boy and another teen escape from the facility on Feb. 11. Both teen were eventually caught.
Staff at the facility alerted police about Meyer’s connection to the escape and relationship with the teen on Feb. 15.
A resident in the facility told employees that although he only met with Meyer for therapy two to three times a month, Meyer met with the escapee several times a day. He also claims to have witnessed Meyer and the teen kissing, and the teen told him he planned to marry Meyer.
The teen involved with Meyer was arrested in White Bear Lake on March 3. He confirmed to police that Meyer helped them escape. He stayed with her after the escape for a week, and had sex with her multiple times. She also provided him with food and money when he was on the lam.
Meyer is already in custody, and could face up to 45 years in prison if convicted.
